The City of Toronto is continuing a review of the Property Standards Bylaw to ensure that properties are safe and well-maintained, and that rules and standards for property owners and occupants are clear and consistent. In 2019, the City began the review in response to Council directives, however the work was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic as resources needed to be redirected to emergency response and recovery. The City is continuing the review using a phased approach.
Phase 1 of the review will explore topics as directed by City Council such as:
Issues with external light in residences;
Surveillance cameras on neighbouring properties;
Timing of snow and ice clearing and enforcement of snow removal on private property;
Implementing safety measures for vacant-derelict properties;
Security and safety measures for dormant development sites; and,
Right of access to adjoining land to make repairs or alterations to your property.
You are invited to participate and provide input on the topics listed above. Take the survey to share your ideas and concerns. The deadline for submission is 11:59 p.m. on December 20, 2021.
Your feedback will be used to help inform a staff report that is expected at the Planning and Housing Committee in early 2022.
