Take these issues up with your potential ward candidates at the public debates, listed on this website and Facebook pages.
NEW ZONING RULES FOR YOUR PROPERTY
In November 2025, Toronto City Council voted to change the zoning by-law that applies to thousands of residential properties.
On designated streets, businesses can now operate out of homes. Including:
Patios. Restaurants. Bars. Cannabis stores, plus many other kinds of businesses.
Evictions of residential tenants are legal if converting to non-residential use.

2. Contact your councillor to express your concerns and to let them know if you were not consulted prior to the change. QUESTION THE PROCESS OF HOW THESE DRACONIAN MEASURES ARE TAKEN.
3. Ask your councillor if they would be willing to change the residential by-law back to how it was. INSIST ON A CLEAR RESPONSE.

Please note when looking at maps on the www.cot-ra.org website:
Map 3 is strictly an infrastructure and engineering map. Its actual purpose is just to track the physical width of the road (the Right-of-Way) so the City knows how much space it needs for things like sidewalks, water mains, and building setbacks. In June 2024 the city took a short cut and approved using using Major Streets to allow 6 storey apartment buildings. In Dec 2024 they wanted to allow businesses to open on the Major streets. COTRA stopped them In Dec 2024 but in Nov 2025 they approved businesses on Major Streets. The reason the map is not updated is because those streets are still physically wide, so they stay on Map 3. The map cares about how wide the road is, not what kind of zoning or uses are allowed on it. This is why the entire policy to use Major Streets is completely flawed. TAKE THIS UP WITH YOUR CANDIDATE AS WELL : MISLEADING AND INACCURATE INFORMATION PUT OUT FOR PUBLIC CONSUMPTION, creating confusion and distrust.
