Two Identical Public Forums on Multiplexes Have Occurred

The City is changing by-laws and the Official Plan to permit multiplexes on any lot in Toronto. This will dramatically impact residents in single family home neighbourhoods and change what is permitted in RM zones today - making them taller, longer and wider - while removing the requirement to provide any onsite parking.

What will happen to our trees? If you fill the lot to this degree with buildings and hard scaping what impact will that have on the liveability of neighbourhoods, air quality, sound and flooding in the face of climate change?

Two online public forums, held by the city, took place on Feb 21st and 23rd. .Next step is presenting the updated proposed framework to the Planning and Housing Committee on Feb 28th and City Council in March for approval.

The City wants to see a more equitable approach to growth. We agree that is important.

Growth needs to take into account a climate impact lens.

What we need are by-laws that protect mature trees, soft landscaping, good growing conditions (light and soil) for trees and native plants and water-permeable surface areas in neighbourhoods to prevent flooding.

More information on what you can do will be following shortly. In the meantime, we encourage you to register and attend for one of the sessions next week
